I am processing my own tax return this year but I'm confused on how to claim back GST on things I've bought for work such as tools, clothes, work boots etc. I'm a mechanical technician by trade but I'm employed by someone (who doesn't supply me these things). Do I claim the whole amount or just the tax?

Hi there EggHead! Are you

Hi there EggHead!

Are you self employed? Sounds like your not. If not, I don't think you can claim GST on any of those items you have purchased for your job. You may be able to get some other sort of tax benefit though if your employer is deducting the cost from your wages I think.

Carol would be a better person to help on this one, where are ya Carol? :)
